World Clothes Line: Clothe the World
Farmington Hill’s native Mallory Brown, Founder of World Clothes Line, was approached by Phoenix Theaters to release a movie preview as a Coming Attraction to help spread the awareness of World Clothes Lines’ mission. They have an amazing business model and a commitment to giving back: “You Buy. We Give. Together we Clothe the World.” World Clothes Line matches every item sold with a new item for someone in need in Peru, Indonesia and the United States. Therefore, when their customers purchase merchandise for themselves, they also provide clothing for others.
This video was shot in Argo Park in Ann Arbor along the Huron River. Clothing lines string from tree to tree dangling the hottest clothes that they have to offer. From “Mountain View” to “Liberty” to “Llama Path” and everything in between, you won’t just look cool, but you will also feel good that you helped clothe someone in need.
How World Clothes Line Got Started
Curious about the world around her, Mallory Brown strapped on a backpack in January 2008 and set out to discover new people and places. On a day excursion from Northern Thailand, Mallory visited Laos, one of the poorest countries in the world. She met a family in need as they were gathered under a tree selling potatoes and roots. Having no local money to offer, Mallory gave her sunglasses to the young mother. Immediately, the entire family started grabbing for her clothes, begging Mallory for anything else she could give. It wasn’t money or food that they needed. It was clothes.
On various trips over the next two years, Mallory explored Bali, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, and the United States. She learned to appreciate different ways of viewing the world but was deeply touched by the commonalities that all humans share. People all over the world reminded her of that family in Laos, desperately needing new clothes. Basic needs are universal.
Upon her return home, Mallory wanted to give back. In an effort to help the people she had encountered, she created a clothing company that would bring awareness to the needs of others.
