Dominique Fischer Memorial Golf Classic
This video takes place on a beautiful July afternoon at Pheasant Run Golf Club in Canton, MI. Blue skies, long fairways and charity is in the air. Friends from all over southeast Michigan, including family friend Mike Martin of the University of Michigan Sugar Bowl Champion Wolverines, arrive to support the Fischer family, who are raising money for their son, Dominique Fischer.
Dominique Alexander Fischer was a beautiful young man who loved life, family, people and most importantly God. He was the “All-American Kid” who excelled at baseball, basketball and football at his beloved Detroit Catholic Central High School. He then went on to become a scholarship athlete at John Carroll University. Dominique’s signature smile captured our hearts, while allowing us to see the beauty of his heart. His future appeared to be very bright until November of 2007, at age 20 when he was diagnosed with bi-polar & schizophrenia disorders. On June 27, 2010, at 23 years old, Dominique committed suicide.
While tragic and upsetting, Dominique Fischer leaves a legacy behind and family members turn tragedy into philanthropic triumph. In memory of Dom, they have created The Dominique Fischer Memorial Foundation (DFMF). This foundation serves 3 purposes: establish the DFMF scholarship @ Detroit Catholic Central High School, provide access and support to educational resources regarding mental illness and fund and execute community service projects to help improve recreational facilities in metropolitan Detroit.
